Jehad Mahmoud — Arabic Language graduate and Hafidha of the Quran, writer on Islamic fiqh and aqeedah at Quran Book Academy

Author Profile

Jehad Mahmoud

Hafidha of the Quran · Graduate of the Department of Arabic Language · Writer on fiqh, aqeedah and the sharia sciences

About Jehad Mahmoud

Jehad Mahmoud writes the Islamic content published at Quran Book Academy. Her work covers fiqh, aqeedah and the wider sharia sciences, written for Muslim families in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia who are learning their religion in English.

She is a graduate of the Department of Arabic Language, and a hafidha — she has memorised the Holy Quran in its entirety. That combination matters more than it might sound: the rulings of fiqh live inside Arabic texts, and the difference between a sound understanding and a distorted one is very often a matter of grammar, of a single preposition, of how a verb is voweled. She reads the sources in the language they were written in.

Alongside her degree, she has spent years studying the Islamic sciences under qualified teachers, and she describes herself first and foremost as a talibat al-‘ilm — a student of sacred knowledge. She is still studying. She considers that the honest description of anyone who works with these texts.

How She Writes About Fiqh

Many of the topics she writes about — purification after menstruation, the rulings of nifas, ghusl — are ones Muslim women are often too shy to ask about out loud. She writes them plainly and without euphemism, because a woman who is unsure whether her prayer is valid deserves a clear answer, not a vague one.

Every article she publishes follows the same three rules:

1. The source is always named. Every ruling is traced back to the Quran or an authentic hadith, and the reference is given — Bukhari, Muslim, the surah and ayah — so the reader can go and check it herself rather than take anyone’s word for it.

2. Scholarly difference is stated, not hidden. Where the madhahib genuinely differ, the difference is written out openly. One school’s position is never quietly presented as though it were the only position.

3. Nothing here is a fatwa. These articles are educational. A ruling that applies to a specific personal situation requires a qualified scholar or mufti who knows the details of that situation. Readers are always told so.
