What exactly is Ijazah?
"Ijazah" or "Ijaza" (in Arabic: means "permission", "authorization", or "license". It is a certified certificate that allows its holder the right to transmit and teach Quran recitation with tajweed or Quran Memorization based on Ijazah type.
Furthermore, it grants its owner the right and ability to certify others with the same authority. As a result, there is an infinite chain of Quran narrators.
Ways to take Ijazah
Since the early days of Islam, Ijazah has represented a tremendous honor and authority; the student comes to his Sheikh or Imam and stays with him for 10 years, learning Quran recitation with tajweed from him OR Quran recitation by heart "in the case of a Hafiz of the Quran." The Sheikh (Imam) then listens to the student while reading or reciting the Quran by heart, corrects him, and the student repeats until the Sheikh is sure that his pupil has mastered his own knowledge and grants him this Ijazah.
There are 2 main types of Ijazah/Sanad in Quran:
